SCartServer Version 2.0 User Guide

Congradulations!  Since you are viewing this user guide, your SCart account has probably been activated.

To see your shopping cart in action, go to http://www.scartserver.com/2.0/your_user_name/ Try to click on the product category "Our Products" to see our sample inventory list =) 

You'll notice that we have put a lovely polar bear to show you how it works. When you customers visit your existing web site, you can put a link to bring them to your shopping cart, which is hosted on our secure servers.

There are many different ways to link to our shopping cart script from your web site. The simpliest way is link to the store entrance

Below is a sample link:

In some case, you might want to link to a specific product only, so use the following link:

Before you release your shopping cart, you have to make some simple changes to customize your online store.

Step 1. You need to make a new frontpage for your entrance.

You'll notice that we have put a standard new store frontpage for your cart, but we believe you'll want something more..more..sophisticated =)

No problem!, you can edit this screen easily.

1) Log on to your admin manager at http://www.scartserver.com/2.0/manager/
2) Click on "Frontpage Section" under Site Setting
3) Modify this html text as needed, then click on the "Edit Page" button

4) Well, click on Main to go back to the main menu, and click on [[ View Your Shopping Cart In Action ]] to see the changes

Repeat the above steps for the other sections such as "Browse Section", "Specials Section", and "Footer Section".
The Browse Section and Specials Section appear when your customer click on the Browse or Specials tab respectively.  The Footer Section text will appear on all of the above sections, so you could put your general information such as Address, Telephone, E-mail Address etc. there.

5) If you are using our co-branded SCartFree or SCartGold service, our logo will appear on the top left corner of your shopping cart, but we understand that you are anxious to display your own logo to your visitors. What you need to do is prepare your logo in GIF format, and name it logo.gif (note the all lower case filename). Follow the instruction in Step 3 to upload this logo to your account, and it will appear on every page.

Step 2. You need to update your inventory database

You'll notice that we have provide you a sample database of a lovely polar bear, but you need to change it, right? Ok, here's the instruction.

1) When you are logged on to your admin manager, click on "Manage Products", and then click on "List All Items"
2) On the Item of Platinum Snuffle Bear, click on "EDIT" (at the top beside Item Name)
3) There are eight fields for each product: (below you will find the description)

Item ID A specific product number. It must be unique for each item, so if you are not sure what to assign, just leave it "blank" and the admin script will generate one for you.
Item Name A product name that you can recognize when you see the order. You should include some keywords so that your customers can search it.
Item Description A short description for this product (ie. size, color, material etc..)
Item Price The price for this product. DO NOT inlcude the "$" (ie. input 10.53 for ten dollars fifty-three cents)
Item Image A filename for the product picture. You can put full URL here or just the filename if it has been uploaded to our server. put "http://www.yourdomain.com/filename.gif" if the picture is somewhere else or put "http://www.scartserver.com/2.0/your_user_name/upload/filename.gif" if it has been uploaded to the product directory
Item Weight Used for calculating the shipping costs. There is no unit, so you just need to put a relative weight (ie. see "Ship Rates" for rate charts)
Item URL Optional URL for the product. If this product has a special web page, put its URL there (ie. "http://www.yourdomain.com/product1.html)
Item Category Select the Category that applies. If you need to modify/add categories, click the "Manage Categories" under the Main menu
Item Options If your product has different attributes such as sizes, colors etc.. you could insert the option code here.

4) Click on the "Edit Item" button after you have input the product information
5) Click on the "Back to SCart Admin Manager" link at the bottom to go back to our
main menu

Step 3. You want to upload an image file for your new products

You'll notice that we've uploaded a polar bear picture for you, but you need something more =) Here's the instruction:
1) When logged on to the admin manager, click on the "Upload Pictures"
2) Click the "Browse" button to select the file to upload from your local computer
3) Input a "New filename". It will probably be the same as your orignal filename.
4) Click on "Upload" button, and your file will be uploaded.
5) If this doesn't work, your browser probably doesn't support file upload. You should
download Netscape 4.0 / Internet Explorer or above.

Step 4. You want to change the tax rates for your orders

We've included a sample tax rates for your store.  SCartServer 2.0 support 2 different tax calculations. (1) tax by states/provinces (2) tax by country.

If you reside in United States, where there's no country-wide sales tax, you should delete all rows under "Tax 2 (Country)" table. Then go to "Tax 1 (State/Prov)" and add the row of your own state. (ie. CA 0.08 for California 8%)

If you reside in Canada, where there are both country-wide (GST) and province-wide taxes (PST), you should add a row under "Tax 2 (Country)".  (ie. CA 0.07 for Canada 7%).  Then go to "Tax 1 (State/Prov) and add the row of your own province (ie. ON 0.08 for Ontario 8%)

If you reside in United Kingdom, where there's only one country-wide (VAT) tax, you should delete all rows under "Tax 1 (State/Prov).  Then go to "Tax 2 (Country)" and add rows for European countries (ie. UK 0.175 for United Kingdom 17.5%)

Step 5. You want to limit foreign orders from some countries

Well, we realize the international orders aren't always possible.  Our shopping cart allows you to accept orders only from a list of selected countries.

1) Click "Foreign Orders" from Main menu.  You could delete rows of the countries that you do not want to accept orders.

Step 6. You want to change the shipping rates for your orders

You'll notice that we've included 3 sample shipping tables for your account.  In fact, you could add as many shipping tables as you wish for your shopping cart (ie. USPS Surface Mail, USPS Priority Mail, UPS Ground, UPS 2nd Day etc..)  To update your shipping rate tables, follow instructions below:

1) Click on "Ship Rates" under Main menu
2) Input the new shipping table description and click the "Add Table" button to add a new shipping table.
3) Select the appropriate shipping table and click the "Edit Table" button to modify an existing shipping table.
4) There are two columns for each table.  If you use the default shipping rate by weight, the left column is the total order "weight unit" and the right column is the "rate in currency unit".  You must insert the rows in ascending orders (minimum weight on top of table)
5) If you want to provide free shipping for a particular shipping method, simply delete all rows except a row [0 0] for free shipping.
6) For your convenience, our shopping cart also supports a shipping surcharge, which applies to all orders no matter what your customer orders.  To update the surcharge, go to Main menu and click on "Preferences".  You could also modify the generic rate table units for your shopping cart.  (ie. by weight, by price, by quantity, by percentage etc..)

Step 7. You want to update payment methods

Our shopping cart is compatible with all major online real-time check / credit cards processors.  Payment method changes  are not updated automatically.  Click on the "Pay Method" under the Main menu and submit the change request.  Our staff will contact you ASAP regarding your requests.
